Happy New Year - 2013

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

"U” is for up!  We started our year flying high, with grand plans.  We looked forward to watching our baby become a big boy, family time in the mountains, and beginning construction on our new home.

“A” is for awesome.  Anchor started swimming lessons, where he learned to jump in, blow bubbles and float.  In February, Jenn flew to Nebraska to meet the twins: Chloe & Emaline.  And, we finally convinced the County planners that our house project is absolutely amazing. They issued our building permits.   We couldn’t wait to get started!

“D” is for down.  As spring popped up, the old lake cabin came down.  It was bittersweet to see the home we lived in for 8 years be taken apart.   The hand work was slow and cathartic.  By the time it was gone, it felt right.  Jenn & Anchor drove down to Vancouver with Uncle Heath to visit new baby Zeo.  We spent all day at the park, diving for volleyballs and downing pizza, pop and popsicles.

“J” is for jouncy.  The arc continued upward as we flew into summer. The house project was in full swing, with Mike and his dad working every spare hour clearing, shoveling, excavating, and prepping.  As things began to rock and roll, Jenn lost her job.  As shocking and difficult as it was, we knew it would only pave the way for good things.

“S” is for summit.  The best part about being unemployed was SUMMER VACATION!   Mama & Anchor crammed in all kinds of adventures. Lots of hikes, the water park, the swimming pool, and the County Fair.   We capped our summer of fun with a hike up “Mama’s Mountain.”  It took all day, but Anchor made it to the top of Mt. Pilchuck, a 6-mile RT, 2,000ft elevation gain peak.  Mama carried Anchor around some tricky footing, but Anchor hiked every step he could manage.

“T” is for tired.  Jenn did find a great job with a supportive manager and great co-workers at the City of Shoreline. Mike and his dad worked solidly through September, spending weekends and vacation days on the lake house.  By the end of the year, we spent over 1,000 hours completing the foundation, basement walls and floor.  In December, we backfilled and put the project to bed for the winter.

We plan to rest this winter, acclimating to all the changes brought by 2012.  We’ll start with fun times on the snowy hill, while Anchor learns to ski. We wish you more than you could possibly dream in 2013!
All our love,
Jenn, Mike & Anchor
