Happy Holidays 2013!

Our adventures were out of this world in 2013!  With Anchor’s imagination, we were astronauts blasting into the far reaches of outer space in our rocketship; or we were firefighters battling flames set by fire-breathing dragons; or we were passengers in the Hotwheels car, “just you and me, mama.”  Or we were busy on a construction site, “Let’s pretend that I’m the boss and you are the worker, okay papa?”

If these imaginative adventures were not enough, we had our share of “real life” adventures, too!  Always persistent in the background is the house project.  Lots of hard work went into it this year, but sometimes the progress is slow to see.  Papa found a load of “almost free” logs and delivered them to the project site (thanks Craigslist!)  These became our first hand peeled, hand hewn, hand hefted additions to the structure.  Papa built elaborate rigging, cranes and hoists to maneuver the 2-ton beasts into place.  With these and some traditional framing, the basement has started to take shape.  Papa’s vision keeps the project alive.

In the early winter months, Anchor began asking if he could go to preschool.  It was apparent that he was ready for the challenges and structure it would bring.  His first day was in March.  He was like a fish in water.  He made friends easily and was quickly writing his name in squiggly all-capital letters.  His memory is not fish-like, however.  After learning that we would be taking a trip to Mexico, his first plane ride was all he could talk about.  We discussed every detail of the airport and the flight.

In April, we visited Cabo San Lucas with Grandma and Grandpa Adams.  From sun up until sundown, we splashed in swimming pools, as super heroes. (Poor grandpa was always the bad guy.)  We had an absolute blast snorkeling and relaxing in the sun.  In the evenings, we would snuggle on the balcony and watch the stars come out as our sleepy boy nodded off to dreamland.

We had what felt like an endless summer in the great Pacific Northwest and we continued to do what we do; hiking, swimming, and a bit of camping.  Anchor hiked his first backpacking trip.  He was a champ, hiking in 3 miles to Anderson-Watson Lakes in the Mt Baker Forest.  We spent two fun-filled nights under star-drenched skies and couldn’t walk more than two feet before another huckleberry just fell into our mouths.  We topped off the trip with well-earned huckleberry shakes.

Fall finally came to town. We spent one last sunny hurrah visiting mama’s sister’s gorgeous new home in Los Angeles. Now we are kicking back, spending time indoors.  This has led to new adventures we call “Stay-home, make-a-big-mess, and-don’t-clean-it-up-all-day.”  These are Anchor’s favorite days.  They are quickly becoming our favorite days, too.  All you need is your imagination.

And so, we wrap up another wonderful year.  And we take a moment to imagine good things for all our family and friends in the year to come. Wishing you and yours the very best this holiday season!

   All our love,
Mike , Jenn & Anchor
